Cobalt Engineering Clients Recognized by BC Hydro Power Smart
Congratulations to Discovery Parks Trust and Kwantlen Polytechnic University for winning the 2008 BC Hydro Power Smart Excellence Awards.

Vancouver, BC – Cobalt Engineering LLP is pleased to announce that their clients’ projects, Discovery Parks Trust and Kwantlen Polytechnic University, have won the 2008 BC Hydro Power Smart Excellence Awards. The Power Smart Excellence Awards showcase the best energy-efficiency and conservation practices of BC Hydro customers. In collaboration with Cobalt, Discovery Parks Trust and Kwantlen Polytechnic University have integrated continuous energy management into their operations. While Discovery Parks Trust won in the category of Innovation in Sustainable Building Design, Kwantlen Polytechnic University received the award for Excellence in Energy Management. “As a fully integrated design firm, we are honoured and proud of our work for Discovery Parks Trust and Kwantlen Polytechnic University. The management and staff are pleased to continue our commitment to sustainability,” said Edward Smith, Cobalt’s CEO.
Discovery Parks Trust is British Columbia’s leading operator of office and laboratory research space for the technology and life sciences sectors. The 140,000-square-foot Burnaby building is expected to house offices and dry laboratories. “We were pleased with the expertise and customer service of Cobalt Engineering. Together with BC Hydro’s program, we were able to maximize the opportunity to create a better working environment for our tenants and their staff,” said Tom Douglas, Director of Development & Leasing at Discovery Parks.
Kwantlen Polytechnic University’s commitment to energy efficiency has made them a sustainability leader among educational institutions. Its’ three new buildings in their Surrey campus were all designed by Cobalt to achieve a minimum of the LEED Gold® building standard. Having surpassed their previous energy reduction in 2006, their new goal is to reduce electricity consumption 45% by 2010. “Partners like Cobalt Engineering will help us achieve our goal.
