Jason Manikel, Associate

“Designing better buildings is our ethical responsibility and is essential to creating a sustainable future.”

Jason joined Cobalt in Vancouver in the spring of 2003 and now leads a design team in Cobalt’s Toronto office. Jason has been involved in every stage of the design process – from concept inception and building modeling, through detailed design and coordination, to construction and commissioning. He has experience in a wide variety of building types (office, retail, restaurant, residential, educational, institutional, warehouse and light industrial) and is familiar with a large range of technologies and systems.

Committed to design excellence, Jason incorporates efficiency and innovative solutions to every project he encounters. For him, this begins with an integrated approach, developing strong relationships with the entire project team – clients, consultants and contractors – which he believes adds value to a project far in excess of each team member’s individual skills and experience. He takes every available opportunity to promote the advantages in energy- and resource-efficiency inherent in a truly integrated design process.

Jason was the lead mechanical designer for Aquaquest: The Marilyn Blusson Learning Centre at the Vancouver Aquarium, the first aquarium in the world to target LEED® Gold certification. He was also the engineer of record for two target LEED Gold fire stations in Halton Hills, Ontario, as well as the project lead for the new CANMET-MTL laboratories at McMaster Innovation Park in Hamilton, a distinguished project targeting LEED Platinum.

Jason graduated from Queen’s University in 1997 with a Bachelor of Science in Mechanical Engineering. He is registered as a professional engineer in three provinces and is also LEED accredited.
